Have questions about the Leadership Certificate Series? You’re in the right place. Whether you're wondering how to register, what to expect, or how to earn your certificate, this page covers everything you need to know to get started.

What is the Leadership Certificate Series?

The Leadership Certificate Series is a collection of four 9-week peer-led workshops designed to help UConn students reflect, connect, and grow as leaders. Workshops are interactive, discussion-based, and rooted in real-life experiences and leadership theory. Whether you're a first-year student or a grad student, this series is open to you.

Who can participate?

Any current UConn student—undergraduate or graduate, from any campus or academic background—is welcome. There’s no formal application process, and no prior leadership experience is needed.

What workshops are offered?

  • Discovery Leadership – Explore your values, identity, and leadership potential.

  • Emotionally Intelligent Leadership – Develop your self-awareness and emotional insight.

  • The Student Leadership Challenge – Practice leadership behaviors based on Kouzes & Posner’s Five Practices.

  • Impact Delta: Leadership for Social Change – Engage in conversations about equity, justice, and systems of change.

What if I’m not a student at the Storrs campus?

Can’t make it to Storrs? We’ve got you! Workshops are also offered at regional campuses—Avery Point, Stamford, and Waterbury. Each campus sets their own schedule; click to explore possibilities and register for a local workshop.

Do I have to take the workshops in a specific order?

Not at all! There’s no preferred sequence—you can take the workshops in any order and at your own pace. We recommend taking only one per semester. If you're not sure where to start, Discovery and Emotionally Intelligent Leadership are our most popular to begin with.

When do workshops meet?

Workshops generally take place once a week on weekday evenings and run for about an hour and a half. You’ll be able to choose a workshop that has a time that fits your schedule during registration. Sessions are designed to accommodate busy student lives.

What does it cost?

Absolutely nothing. Workshops are completely free to all UConn students.

Is there homework?

There’s no required homework, tests, or grades. Facilitators will often share optional books, articles, podcasts, or videos if you’re interested in diving deeper between sessions, but everything is take-what-you-need.

Can I miss a week?

No, you cannot miss a week of a workshop and still receive a certificate. We do understand that life happens however, if that's the case for you, please email your workshop facilitator and discuss your options.

Do I get a certificate?

Yes! In fact, you’ll earn a unique certificate for each workshop you complete.  These official UConn certificates look great on your resume, CV, LinkedIn, and scholarship or grad school applications.

Why should I take it?

Whether you're here for fun, your future, or a little of both—this program has something to offer.

  • Build skills in self-awareness, communication, and group dynamics

  • Boost your resume and career readiness

  • Connect with other thoughtful, motivated students

  • Explore your values and personal leadership style

  • Learn how to lead with empathy, inclusion, and impact

  • Plus... it's actually fun. Seriously.

Can I become a facilitator?

Yes! Every spring semester, we hire new student facilitators to lead workshops the following year. Facilitators are paid, receive training and mentorship, and get to develop meaningful relationships with participants and professional staff. You don’t have to complete all four workshops first to apply—just bring curiosity, commitment, and care. Learn more here

How do I register?

Each semester, registration opens with available workshop times and locations. You’ll fill out a short form and choose what works best for your schedule. Check out this site for registration links each fall and spring.
